I believe that all of these issues affect everyone. We all have a virtual footprint that is extremely difficult to manage and control. Right when we think we are being cautious, we forget that there is more to it than caution. People behind the scenes of these productions are watching our every move and every click and that can be extremely concerning, especially as children are being introduced to technology earlier and earlier in their lives. They grow up being surrounded by all of this and will not know any better, unless something changes. The fact that we do not have control over who is viewing our information is concerning. I think that there should be a better balance for the amount of government control over our lives. They could even just alert people of their impact and then let society decide if they want to continue using certain platforms based on the amount of intervention involved. In order to protect ourselves from this, we need to be more careful of what we do. We give away our information too willingly and never stop to think about how these actions are affecting us in the long run.
Everyone is guilty of it: giving companies your real email and real phone number. We give companies our personal information by providing them with answers to security questions. The worst part is that we do not even think about what we are doing. We have all been taught to trust the process of it until something goes wrong. This immediate trust needs to change. We need to start teaching the younger generations to be able to observe what is right and what is wrong. As technology progresses, so do the hacking system and other suspicious tactics. Society needs to do better on educating ourselves and others on internet safety as well as providing ways to protect ourselves.
